Evolution Made a Mistake
By Daniel Parkes
January 21, 2008

According to the theory of evolution, it's a dog-eat-dog world and only the fittest will survive. In fact, Darwin's survival of the fittest theory states that evolution will do whatever it can to make the propagation of the species more vibrant, more robust, more excellent. But where, I ask, is the "survival" of a plant that flowers once every 100 years, flowering to such a great extent that it literally depletes all of its resources, so that it dies within a few months of flowering? This palm tree literally seals it's own fate in the process of flowering. There is nothing to suggest this mechanism enhances the life cycle of the plant; instead, it does exactly the opposite! What exactly is this plant all about, then?

This plant is another example of God's beautiful handiwork, having created everything for His own purposes and His own pleasure. In fact, look at this palm tree, and you can see a remarkable resemblance to the salvation story - and I personally believe God gave us this remarkable plant to remind us of just that. For example, at the very prime of His life, when Jesus was in "full bloom", He willfully gave of His life for us, and laid it down. The blooming of this rare palm tree that was recently discovered is like that, too, a displaying of glory, to the extent that it surpasses the glory demonstrated by most other plants. It is an exceptional plant, to be sure (read the entire story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22690792/). Imagine something like a Christmas tree, growing out of the top of a palm tree. And then imagine hundreds of tiny white flowers oozing with nectar, which cause insects and birds to be attracted to it.

Now think of Jesus. What Jesus did has attracted the world to Him. Jesus's sacrifice has become a magnet, if you will, for millions of people around the world. Daily, people worship Him. Daily, people give their lives for Him. I say, this palm tree is no accident. It is a creation of God, designed to remind us of the great sacrifice that Jesus gave to us in laying down His life for us, so that all may be freely given the chance to have their lives redeemed. Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15) In another passage, we read, "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out."

Jesus is the anti-type of this incredible palm tree! And the palm tree is a type of Jesus!

Have you put your faith in Jesus, yet? Learn from the example of the palm tree!

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him." (John 3:16-17)
