God Has His Ways!
By Daniel Parkes
July 17, 2000

"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights." (Proverbs 3:11-12)

It was time to get up. Things needed to be done. But there I was still in bed. No, I wasn't well rested! I had gone to bed at 1:00 a.m. that same morning. But still, it was time to get up.

As I lay there in my bed, I had a dream! I looked and beheld that within a very short time span, that about thirty ferns grew from essentially "nothing" to about twenty feet tall! They filled the backyard of my house. This captured my attention greatly! I was so amazed that ferns could grow so fast, and so tall!

But still, I was asleep! And I needed to be awake. God was onto something. God had his way of "motivating" his children. God loved me enough to give me the dream ... it was such an unsual dream, and a real "eye-catcher" to be sure. Now, to be sure, my "vantage point" in the dream was that I was standing inside the house, gazing through one of the back windows, watching these giant ferns growing so utterly fast and huge.

All of sudden, one of the ferns -- those twenty foot tall ferns -- came over to the window of the house from which I had my vantage point and became mildly agressive and picked up a small stone and began to motion as if to throw it at the window which I was standing behind -- something which could break the window! This frightened me so much that, at that very instant, I chose to "wake up" (in real life) rather than continue on with the dream! I didn't want that window to break! Suddenly I knew that God was speaking to me. "Get downstairs to be with your family! It's time to get up. And they need you!"

Now think about that! This was no ordinary dream. It was an "eye-catcher" to be sure. God had caught my attention, and then used that to "drive his point home." God does that! He loves his children so! So the next time something unusual happens -- something that forces you to do something that you know you needed to do (or maybe you didn't quite realize that you needed to do it at the time but nevertheless you did need to do it) -- then give glory to God. Be glad you are his child, and that he is taking care of you!

"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." (Philippians 2:13)
