Present
By David McConnell
December 14, 2000

I have always tried to find a gift that is the most special present one could receive at Christmas. The one present that will make that person smile the biggest, give the warmest thank you, hug your neck till your eyes poke out and your head pops off. The present that will be remembered and will last through the years.

Well, I have good news for all! I have found the best present there is. This present never wears out, comes with a lifetime iron clad warranty, never goes out of style. This present lasts forever, doesn't break, doesn't need batteries, has no power cord. Can be given to man, woman, boy or girl. Always available, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year. I am sure many of you are on edge of your seat ready to buy, buy, buy. Well the bad news is, it can not be bought. But the great news is, IT'S FREE!

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

The verse above is a reminder to all of the GREATEST present there is. The gift of eternal life, given to all freely with no strings attached. So as you rush about this season looking for the perfect gift, remember you already have it. Have you accepted it?

So when you're at the shopping center and everyone else seems in a hurry to find that perfect gift, smile, remember you have yours, say 'God bless' and show them the wonders of your present. Remember who's birthday we are celebrating, it is Our Present's (Our Lord's) birthday. Remember God gave Jesus to us to die for our sins, awesome isn't it?

Christmas is a time of giving, and there is more to giving than paper wrapped presents. How many strangers do you give to? This does not mean money or things of dollar value.

Have you ever let a stranger have a parking space you got to first? Do you let people go before you in line? Do you hold the door for others? These are just a few examples of giving that does not cost money. I am sure there are many more ways to give to our brothers and sisters, let the present that lives inside you be the guide.

Thank you Lord for the greatest present of all, your Son.

Merry Christmas to all.
