The Power of Prayer By Daniel ParkesPrayer changes things. It's true. And the first thing it changes is ourselves. We need to pray, because we need to learn how to commune with our heavenly Father. As we begin to commune with Him, something inside of us happens. We begin to change. When we pray, we begin to soften up on the inside. It is this change which God sees and delights in when He says, eventually, "I have seen that prayer request, and I am going to answer it!" The closer we get to God through prayer, the more likely our prayers will get answered. After all, it is the relationship with God which must come first. After that, He will delight in answering our prayers. Prayer is serious business, because it involves communicating with an awesome, holy, God. He is the Creator of the universe. He is truly the amazing Creator of all things. Three Passages The Bible says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him." (1 John 5:14-15). The Bible also says, "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." (James 5:16b). The Bible also says that Jesus "was heard because of His reverent submission." (Hebrews 5:7b). From these three passages, we know that, in order to lead an effective prayer life, we need, at all times, to seek to: o Pray according to God's will (1John 5:14); o Be righteous in our attitude and actions (James 5:16b); and o Truly learn to be submissive to the will of God, like Jesus was. (Hebrews 5:7b). Of course, Jesus wasn't beaten by God. That is, He was not under a cruel taskmaster. Jesus learned "reverent submission" by learning how to have a loving, gracious, gentle - yet firm at times - relationship with His heavenly Father, God. And this is the type of relationship which all true, born-again, believers are called to experience. Only then - if we develop this kind of relationship with God - will we be truly effective in seeing our prayers answered, and knowing God, truly, from our hearts. Then, and only then, we will know what it means to experience the real power prayer. Why not pray today? Daniel Parkes is the founder of FCET, Fellowship of Christian Engineers and Technologists. He has authored more than 600 articles available at www.fcet.org. What is a Christian? Christians are those who have trusted in Christ as their Lord and Savior. Christians should not be surprised at the events that are currently happening in the world today. In 2014-15, a series of eclipses will be occurring which point to the Lord's return in the very near future. Our opinion is that the rapture of the church will happen prior to this, in 2012. If you are not aware of these eclipses, you must read He is Coming Back Sooner than You May Think (http://www.fcet.org/eclipsearticle.html) which is fully backed up by the data (http://www.fcet.org/eclipsedata.html).
