Dry Bones Come Alive

In the book of Ezekiel, chapter 37, we have the passage about the valley of dry bones. If you've read the passage (and you should), you'll know it is about God speaking to Ezekiel the prophet, questioning him as to whether or not a valley full of dry bones can be made to live again. Ezekiel, familiar with God's wonder working power, wisely answers, "O Lord God, You know." (Ezekiel 37:3b)

The story continues, God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones and he does. Something begins to happen! Ezekiel suddenly hears a "rattling" sound ... the bones are coming together! (This is, incidentally, a vision.) God then commands him to prophesy again, so that breath would come into these lifeless beings, and he does. Again, something begins to happen! New life comes into these once dead people and they become "an exceedingly great army" (Ezekiel 37:10).

This word that comes to Ezekiel comes at a very significant time in the life of the nation of Israel, when Israel is saying, "Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!" (Ezekiel 37:11) Because everything looks so "bleak" to the natural eye, this becomes the predominant attitude in Israel. God sends Ezekiel to awaken them to an incredible spiritual reality - God is still their God and he will fight for them and do their bidding. Just let him. And trust him!

Today, friends, things are no different. As Israel becomes "hemmed in on every side", some may be despairing, thinking, "Where is God in this midst of my trouble?" Friends, it is time to pray for Israel, and send words of encouragement to Israel, and to remind them that God is still their God and he has not given up on them! Will you do it? Will you pass a message along to a Jewish friend today, to remind them how much God loves them and still has a wonderful plan for their life?

God reigns in Israel! Don't be fooled by your eyes! Have faith and trust him today!

"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee." (Psalm 122:6)
